PSA Requirements for Electronic Security – Powered Gates
The Private Security Authority (PSA) has published a Public Consultation document “PSA Licensing Requirements for Electronic Security – Powered Gates Contractors in the Private Security Industry”. This process follows a previous public consultation in May 2017, and subsequent working group. This offers industry stakeholders, interested parties and others another opportunity to comment on the requirements to apply to providers of Electronic Security – Powered Gates for PSA licensing.
The PSA is the regulatory body responsible for the regulation of the private security industry in Ireland. The PSA is a statutory body under the aegis of the Minister for Justice and Equality and currently licenses individuals working in the Door Supervisor, Security Guard and Cash-in-Transit sectors as well as contractors in the Door Supervisor, Electronic Security, Event Security, Security Guarding, Private Investigator and Locksmith sectors.
Section 8(2)(e) of the Private Security Services Act provides for the PSA to specify standards to be observed in the provision of security services by licensees or particular categories of licensees. The PSA is proposing to introduce a new set of requirements for the installers of Powered Gates. The aim of these requirements is to protect the public by improving standards in the sector and to ensure that only those certified to the highest standards operate in the sector.

The PSA are inviting submissions and comments from the security industry as well as other interested parties on this document. Submissions, which should be entitled “Public Consultation”, can be sent by:
