The contractor licence fee consists of two components – an administration fee and a turnover fee which is based on the turnover of the contractor across all licensable sectors. Thus a contractor operating in more than one sector will pay one administration fee and a turnover fee based on the combined turnover across each area of activity.

  • New entrants to the security industry (those without a turnover in licensable sectors) only pay the administration fee of €1,000.

  • Contractors seeking to add a sector to an existing licence pay a licence fee based on the unused period of the existing licence.

The links below provide further details including how to calculate the fee.

Contractor Fees For Renewal Of Licences And For Applicants Who Have Turnover In A Licensable Sector

The contractor licence fee consists of two components – an administration fee and a turnover fee which is based on the turnover of the contractor across all licensable sectors. Thus a contractor operating in more than one sector will pay one administration fee and a turnover fee based on the combined turnover across each area of activity.

Contractors who operate in a number of licensable sectors should combine their turnover from each sector before calculating the turnover fee.

The two year licence fee is chargeable on the annual combined turnover, on the following basis:

Turnover TotalTurnover FeeAdministration FeeLicence Fee
< €10€0€1,000€1,000
< €300,000€250€1,000€1,250

Contractor Fees For Licence Holders Wishing To Add A Sector To An Existing Sector

The contractor licence fee consists of two components – an administration fee and a turnover fee which is based on the turnover of the contractor across all licensable sectors. Thus a contractor operating in more than one sector will pay one administration fee and a turnover fee based on the combined turnover across each area of activity.

The licence fee for the additional sector(s) will be based on the unused period of the existing licence and will be calculated on the basis of combined turnover for all sectors including turnover (if any) in the add-on sector.

To calculate the unused period of a licence count the number of months that have passed since the licence issued. Part of a month should be counted as a full month. Subtract this number from 24 (licences are issued for two years (24 months)) to find the number of unused months.

The table below sets out the turnover fees and administration fees to be paid based on the unused period of a licence and the combined turnover.

To calculate the licence fee

  1. Combine the turnover for all licensable activities.
  2. Calculate the number of months unused on the licence. (Count the number of months which have passed since the licence issued. Part of a month should be counted as a full month. Subtract this number from 24 (licences are issued for two years (24 months)) to find the number of unused months).
  3. Find the column on the fee table above which relates to your Combined Turnover (Columns 4–10).
  4. Find the number of unused months on your licence in column 1.
  5. Go to the corresponding row in the Turnover Column you selected. This will provide you with the turnover fee.
  6. Go to the corresponding row in the Admin Fee Column. This will provide you with the administration fee.
  7. Add the turnover fee and administration fee to get the licence fee.
